Few places yesterday at prices and hopefully one of two arrows in the Greatwood can go a few better. First up is Dexcite, a lightly raced 4 year old who is clearly not straightforward. He looked the winner at Newbury before getting nabbed late on by Alzammaar on handicap debut. He then travelled into the race beautifully from the back of the field on reappearance off 5lb lower than today but didn’t seem to want to go past. Perhaps he needed it but how he finishes his races has to be a worry. However, he’s still unexposed on just his 3rd handicap start and the yard won this a few years ago with Olofi, who lines up again today. His best runs have come on good ground but he’s by Authorized and a half brother to a heavy winner so I’m not convinced the soft ground will inconvenience.
Days Of Heaven is another quirky sort who swerved the Festival through fear he’d not handle the atmosphere. That could be an issue pre-race here but he has oodles of ability and has shown it on soft ground. His defeat of Vago Collonges looks good given that runner is now rated 140+ and the selection was subsequently sent off 6/1 in Grade 1 company at Punchestown when disappointing. I’m happy to forgive him that and think 145 could well underestimate him. He may need this, he may not handle it but it’s worth playing at 16’s to find out.
