Cheltenham 13.10

As far as the C4 action goes today at Cheltenham, A Hare Breath looks the most exciting play of the day. He’s not my usual sort of price or bet in a race like this, a deeper race potentially than he contested last time, but I fancy he’ll shorten and win. Up 12lb for a comfortable win on yard debut last time, he didn't have the smoothest of passages and his trainer thinks he’ll come on for the run. Much was made of the sparkling piece of work he did with 2 of Nicky Henderson’s horses prior to that run, a 150+ rated chaser and exciting novice hurdler no less, and I wouldn’t be surprised were he lining up in the Supreme come March, that’s how good he could be. He’s certainly the only horse to keep tabs on Barters Hill at home. His mark is still a fair way off his ability, for all that’s true of a few in here, and he looks worth a chunky play.

Earlier on the card, Son Of Suzie lines up as a lightly raced chaser off a similar mark as when coming down in the race 12 months ago. He does need to brush up on his jumping to an extent but it’s still early days for him and he has the potential to capitalise off this sort of mark. The yard are going better now than when he made his reappearance and are no stranger to a winner here either. His last 3 starts have been at 3 miles plus and, though he has scope for that kind of test, I fancy a drop back to this sort of trip here may well suit. Elsewhere on the card, Blaklion should be favourite for the novices’ chase and Sausalito Sunrise must have a superb chance of doubling up here in the staying chase, though I’m none toot taken with the price.
