Tom has a couple bigger priced selections for Lingfield.
Fancy a few of the shorties today at Lingfield, particularly Haalick, Gracious John and Cold As Ice. There are a few double figure prices to get stuck into though and first up is a horse who I can’t really see out of the frame for the sprint. Alben Star won it 2 years ago and was 2nd last year and this has undoubtedly been the aim for the last 12 months. He technically has 6lb to find with 4 of these but he should have this run to suit. A strong pace to aim at from stall 5 gives him a great chance of being involved at the business end and I’m not really concerned he’s finished 10th and 7th on his last 2 starts at the track. He was a little hampered 2 runs back over 6 having tracked over from a wide draw and was wide over 5 last time. I fancy they’ll go a fair bit quicker today too with the likes of Bosham, Chookie Royale, Gamgoom, Goken and Lancelot Du Lac in the field and it could just set up for Alben Star.
Another play comes on the form of Big Baz. He’ll have to be better than ever to win this but his trainer has maintained he’s a Group horse in the making and I’m not worried he heads back form Dubai without a win to his name. Meydan and then this was always the plan and, given he had the measure of Sovereign Debt at Kempton in November (albeit in receipt of 2lb), I can’t understand the disparity at the prices. That form has worked out very well too given the Dubai exploits of Very Special. Big Baz was drawn wide and dropped in last year but is far better berthed here and I think he'll be ridden a little more prominently. 4-9 on the all weather and a dual course and distance winner, he’s a 10lb better horse than when contesting this 12 months ago and sent off at 8/1 so looks the value play here.
