RacingUK's Tom Stanley gives us his verdict on Saturday's Racing.
Taurean Star lines up for the 4th time this year and for the third time over Ascot’s straight mile. He won on reappearance for which he went up 6lb and the ground didn’t suit in the Britannia. He was a little unlucky at Lingfield last time over half a furling shorter but a return to this track should really suit and Jamie Spencer back on, particularly given how well he rides the straight course here, is a big plus.
2 for the 7 furlong handicap at Ascot and first up is a horse that went up here a fortnight ago only for him to be withdrawn. Squats was said to be short of work before running in the Victoria Cup but hopefully will be ready to roll here because he looks well treated. He wasn’t too far behind the likes of Twilight Son and Magical Memory at York last year when giving them weight and the step up to 7 furlongs should suit. He could be handily drawn too as there is pace high but they may well end up in 1 group and it won’t matter a great deal. Drawn lower is Lincoln and he’s worth another go for all his season has started to become frustrating. He chased home Speculative Bid over course and distance in the Victoria Cup last year and is a very well treated horse based upon that effort and upon some early season efforts. This straight 7 suits and he looks overpriced.
See The Sun lines up at his favourite track but he did under perform in this race 12 months ago. There was plenty of competition up top that day though and he may not face the same pace threat this time around. 3lb higher than his win here in May, this mark shouldn’t be beyond him. Tanzeel is a huge threat with the tongue tie back on but See The Sun may take some catching over this swift 6. He was poorly drawn at Chester last time when doing plenty early but this straight 6 suits, particularly if getting the run of things.
