Racing UK's Tom Stanley has found some betting angles at Glorious Goodwood.
Franklin D is incredibly tempting at a very short price in the 22-runner Betfred Mile. He should have the run of things, gets his ground and we know he's chucked in. Not easy to take on. We saw last year that it was difficult to get involved from the rear and history should repeat itself 12 months on. There’s just so little guaranteed pace so I hope Red Avenger gets handy from stall 3 because he likes it here and is 1lb lower than for his win in this 2 years ago. He’s had just the 1 start for Gary Moore, here, and his well being isn’t certain but he’s worth playing at the prices with plenty in his favour. Also going up is Master The World from stall 5. He was just edged out of it in the Cambridgeshire and a return to a mile looked sensible after that. That said, he shaped for further at York so who knows. He was slowly away that day though, probably the biggest factor in a slightly disappointing effort. He will like the ground, should race handy, and isn’t out of things off this mark.
Red Avenger - 1pt @ 28/1
Master The World - 1pt @ 16/1
Goldream hasn’t been seen to for 125 days but that’s no bad thing. A winner fresh in each of the last 2 seasons, he was withdrawn at Ascot due to softish ground and can take advantage here. The negative is yard form as Robert Cowell has been a touch quiet but it’s not something to get carried away with and this race's top rated horse has plenty in his favour. The ground will suit, he’s a Group 1 winner and looks a little overpriced given he has the beating of most of these on form. The 3 year old fillies could be the biggest danger but there’s no great appeal in their respective prices given the class of this field.
Goldream - 1pt @ 9/1
I like Poet’s Word very much in the last but perhaps he’s not the safest 7/2 shot given what happened at Epsom, though there were excuses. At the prices it could well be worth backing Indulged for a team in fine form. He seemed not to enjoy the soft ground at Windsor on handicap debut but he has form with Poet’s Word from his racecourse bow and and duly followed up at Ripon. He shaped as though the step up in trip would suit too and, like many of these, will likely have plenty more to offer off this sort of mark.
Indulged - 1pt @ 10/1
