We reveal the three most backed horses at Newcastle for the return of UK racing
STONE MASON is making his debut run for Mick Appleby here and despite not having the best form in the book, he has been very well backed in the opener. The four-year-old gelding makes his debut on the all-weather and a plethora of money has come in for him. The Horse Watchers syndicate are no doubt behind the big move, having been 3/1 when the markets opened. He is racing off a mark of 63, having been dropped 5lb in what looks a relatively weak race.
Roger Varian’s four-year-old MUTASAAMY is proving very popular with punters in the second race of the day, who made eye-catching progress last season. This culminated in a victory at Kempton in August under Jim Crowley, making a mark of 70 look lenient. He is up 8lb for that effort but punters think that still underestimates him
ART POWER won very easily on his last start at a two-year-old in October, and if he has progressed from two to three, he is very much the one to beat here. Tim Easterby’s colt showed a very impressive turn of foot when putting his rivals to the sword at York, and having run over this course and distance on debut, punters are hoping for a big effort here.
