We reveal the three most backed horses on the second day of the Cheltenham Showcase meeting
ALLMANKIND makes his seasonal reappearance here after a fantastic juvenile season, winning three races and finishing third in the Triumph Hurdle. His most notable success came when winning the Grade 1 Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in December, when bolting up by nine lengths. His front running style is a brilliant watch, and punters think he will take some catching today.
SOUTHFIELD STONE has been backed into favouritism in this novice chase for Paul Nicholls. He was the model of consistency last season, never finishing below third in his five starts. He improved throughout the season, winning at Musselburgh then finishing a close second in a Grade 2 at Kempton in February. The seven-year-old has wind surgery over the summer and with Paul Nicholls in sensational form, it is no surprise to see Southfield Stone being strongly supported.
PLANETGANET came second in this race last season and is being backed to go one better this afternoon. The eight-year-old ran a very encouraging second at Kelso earlier this month, just being held by a game winner that day. He now arrives here off a 1lb higher mark than last year, where he was unlucky not to win. He looks to have been set out for this race and the money continues to pour in for Seamus Mullins’ runner.
