The Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot is always fiercely competitive, and sometimes Lady Luck plays her part.

But, having won so easily last time out I’m hoping JARRAAF can take the spoils once again.

The latest run was over course and distance, and this colt has had four career runs, producing two wins at this trip, the other two producing solid displays at seven furlongs.

He’s clearly at rising sprinter, and the in-form Billy Loughnane takes the ride.

His stable is going well to boot (33% last 14 days), and he looks a solid play on the Ascot card.

Simply put, MOUNTAIN BREZE has the best form in the race to date.

Of course this race comes with the tags of unexposed types, but she’s been on her game from day one.

A debut win, and a repeat win under a penalty seen her sent to Royal Ascot as a 9-4 shot for the Group Three Albany, won by Fairy Godmother.

She ran a solid fourth, with the second Simmering winning a Group Three last time out, and the third winning her subsequent run.

She was just denied in a Group Two last time on this course, and the step up to seven furlongs looks a good move.

A chance is taken on the yard-switching SAM HAWKENS.

His stablemate leads the market, and would have a great chance turned out quickly after an easy win just six days ago.

But, the selection has shown plenty of potential, and the change of scenery to this in-form yard might have done him the world of good.

Just denied on debut when with the Hannon team, he was staying on second time out in a race that has worked out well.

He then won what was basically a match race over this trip at Salisbury, stretching out for a comfortable success at short odds.

He faded over a longer trip in a hotter contest than this two starts ago off a three pound higher mark.

Last time out he again performed with credit, with the winner running solid at Glorious Goodwood last winner, and the second winning a good handicap at Sandown next time out.

The market is nibbling already, so the new stable may have sharpened him up for a bigger performance to come.

The consistent and likeable TALIS EVOLVERE hasn’t had the rub of the green of late, but is due to pop up in one of these big handicap’s on turf.

He’s an all-weather winner this season at Newcastle back in March, before running third in the Spring Cup at Newbury, and returning there again with another third placing, behind solid yardstick in Sonny Liston.

His last three runs have been in big field handicaps at Royal Ascot, Newmarket and last time out at Glorious Goodwood.

He fell out the stalls in that latest run eight days ago, and was staying on all too late.

He needs things to drop right, but this is an easier assignment than he’s been getting, so worth an each-way play.

Second on debut, this No Nay Never colt stepped up on that to win going away in a Listed race at the course.

That was over five furlongs, with the runner-up franking the form.

Sent off odds-on in the Group Two Norfolk at Royal Ascot, WHISTLEJACKET was again staying on to best effect over the five furlong trip, coming home first of his group of seven.

Last time out he took the step up in trip he needed and fairly bolted up in the Group Two July Stakes at Newmarket.

If you take out the likely second favourite Babouche, then it’s not a deep Group One.

He should be able to step up to the top table and take this Group One in his stride.
