Elder Brownlee was 125/1 at 10am but odds tumble after carrying Jonny over finish line.
Jonny Brownlee was leading with 700m to go before suffering from heat exhaustion. He began to weave over the road before being collected and propped up by brother, Alistair, who carried him over the finish line in second place before him.
The Brownlee brothers were competing in Mexico in what turned out to be a dramatic end to the Triathlon World Series. Jonny then collapsed after crossing the line and was taken to hospital for treatment.
When asked about the incident, Alistair said: “it was a natural human reaction”, before adding: “I wish the flippin’ idiot had paced it right.”
On the back of his sportsmanship, the bookies have reacted sharply by cutting his odds to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year from as long as 125/1 this morning to 6/1.
