Heisman Trophy 2024 Betting

The Heisman Trophy is college football’s most prestigious individual trophy. Current Washington Commanders and former LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels won the most recent Heisman in 2023. The first Heisman Trophy was awarded all the way back in 1935 to University of Chicago Maroons running back Jay Berwanger.

University of Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward is a top contender according to the Heisman Trophy betting odds this year. We have to wait and see, though. Sometimes, the best player inCollege Football doesn’t necessarily win the award, especially if they play for Miami. The Hurricanes have had some of the best teams in college football history, but just two of their players have ever won the Heisman Trophy: Vinny Testaverde in 1986 and Gino Toretta in 1992.

Colorado Buffaloes cornerback and wide receiver Travis Hunter and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe are also in the hotely contested mix in the 2024 Heisman Trophy betting odds list with odds from the US’ best sportsbooks.

It makes sense that the clear top three are quarterbacks. A quarterback has won the Heisman Trophy for three straight years. Since 2010, just two non-quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy. In fact, 36 of the 78 all-time Heisman winners have been quarterbacks. Additionally, eight of the current top-10 Heisman Trophy betting odds leaders are quarterbacks.

Speaking of trends, it will be interesting to see how college football’s extreme realignment in the 2024 season affects Heisman Trophy voting. Recently, the SEC and Big Ten teams have featured the most Heisman Trophy winners. The ACC has only won it in years when an all-time great played for one of the teams.

In 2024, the Pac-12 has just two teams with no contenders. The Big Ten now has 16 teams with all the biggest teams formerly from the Pac-12, and the SEC has a strong slate of contenders. The ACC, meanwhile, has the betting odds leader Cam Ward.

Betting on NCAAF - State Legislation

With NIL deals, college football is not exactly 100% amateur now, but generally, it is still an amateur sport. Because of this, many states restrict the type of NCAAF bets you can place. In the following states, you cannot place NCAAF player prop bets:

  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Louisiana
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Mississippi
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia

Other states have legal player prop betting but restrict the placement of player props on teams based in the state. Bans on betting on in-state teams are common laws many betting states support.

Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin do not allow you to place bets on in-state teams.

Massachusetts has a similar ban, but you can wager on in-state teams if they participate in a national tournament, like the College Football Playoff. Connecticut only allows futures bets on in-state teams.
