MLB Odds Update: Houston Astros Odds to Reach World Series Stagnant
The Houston Astros have reigned atop the American League winner odds market pretty much all season. Now that they’ve clinched the AL West, nothing has changed. Oddsmakers haven’t moved an inch even with the division titles being clinched.
The Astros are given +225 odds to win the American League, or an implied 30.8% chance. That puts them first in the league, ahead of the reigning champion and league-leading Tampa Bay Rays. Indeed, oddsmakers didn’t always view this the same way. Before the season, the Astros were given +850 odds to win the American League, 5th best on the market. So, the fact they’ve led for the majority of the season is a huge accomplishment.
The Astros are also the favorites from the AL to win the World Series. At +600, they’re given a 14.3% chance to win the World Series, second only to the Dodgers. Of course, this has been the case for most of the season, but it is interesting to see them given better odds than the reigning AL champions and the team with the best record in MLB.
The Astros have ruled over the AL winner odds market pretty much all season. Even though they don’t have the best record in the league, nothing has changed. It’s certainly not going to change now that they’ve won the AL West. What is interesting, though, is that their odds have remained completely stagnant despite clinching. One would have expected their odds to improve, even if only slightly, that just hasn’t happened.
