Houston Astros vs. Chicago White Sox ALDS Latest Odds: Astros Given 71% Chance to Win Series After Game 1 Victory
Before Game 1, this was the tightest series of the Division Series in either league. After the Astros won Game 1, that isn’t the case anymore.
The Astros came into the series as the favorite, albeit a small one. They were given -124 odds, or a 55.4 percent chance to win the series. However, after winning Game 1, the Astros are now given -250 odds, or a 71.4 percent chance to advance. Meanwhile, the White Sox have seen their odds drop from +106 to +220, or a 48.5 percent chance down to a 31.3 percent chance.
Even more shocking, oddsmakers now believe that a series sweep is the most likely scenario. The Astros are now given +260 odds to sweep the White Sox. That’s a stark change from their +500 odds heading into Game 1. The previous favorite, Astros in five games, has gone from +330 to +310.
The Astros thoroughly dominated Game 1. Their 6-1 victory was a statement. However, the rapid change of expectations from a tight five-game series to an easy sweep is crazy. The White Sox’s rotation is deeper and could cause problems for the Astros. The Astros are, without a doubt, the clear favorites in this series, but the rapid change in expectations seems uncalled for.
