Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox ALDS Latest Odds: Rays Given 74% Chance to Win Series After Game 1 Victory

The Tampa Bay Rays came into this game as a strong favorite. In fact, they were the second biggest favorite to win their Division Series. Only the Dodgers were given better odds. Those odds have only ballooned after Game 1.

The Rays are now given -280 odds to win the series. That’s an implied 73.7 percent chance to advance to the ALCS. On the flip side, the Red Sox now sit at +225, or an implied 30.8 percent chance to come back and win the series.

That’s not all, though. Oddsmakers also no longer believe the series will go five games. The new favorite is for the Rays to win in 4 games, +260. Even a Rays sweep, +280, has better odds than the Rays in 5 games, +290.

This was always going to be a difficult series for the Red Sox. They don’t have the deepest pitching staff, and their offense is hobbled with JD Martinez and Rafael Devers, both injured to varying extents. After being shut out in Game 1, their adrenaline from the Wild Card game may be gone. That kind of letdown is hard to overcome. Oddsmakers are just putting a price on that.
