World Series Odds and Top Bets: Are the Rays the Best Value Bet?

Baseball is back! After a long fight, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reached an agreement on a new labor deal. Players are reporting to spring training as early as tomorrow and opening day is expected for April 7.

Now that the business side is out of the way, it's time for us to look at World Series odds. Here are the favorites, and some top bets for the 2022 Fall Classic.

Los Angeles Dodgers +600 (Bet $100 to win $600)

The Dodgers are the favorite, and a chalk answer after winning the world series in 2020. Sure, they lost Corey Seager, Corey Knebel, and Max Sherzer before the lockout but this is still an insanely deep team here. Walker Buehler and Julio Urias make up a stacked top of the rotation and the lineup is still as potent as ever.

In the lineup, Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Will Smith is a great core, and hopefully, Cody Bellinger has a bounce-back year for L.A. They're a lock to be a playoff team and aren't afraid to spend big to get over the top.

New York Mets +1200 (Bet $100 to win $1200)

Steve Cohen has made his presence felt early in his Mets tenure as owner. Before the lockout, his team had a major splash in bringing in Max Scherzer to pair with Jacob deGrom at the top of the rotation. That's two of the three or four best pitchers in the game in the same rotation.

They will need the likes of Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil bouncing back in order for them to have a real shot at winning this World Series. I'd expect them to be active once free agency picks up again.

New York Yankees +1200 (Bet $100 to win $1200)

For the past five years, the New York Yankees have been in the playoffs including two trips to the ALCS. For whatever reason, this team hasn't been able to get over the hump in the postseason. So far the Yanks have had a relatively quiet offseason but with their crosstown rivals spending big, you just know they don't want to play second fiddle for much longer. With Carlos Correa just sitting there ready to be had, it makes too much sense for them to land a huge star like that to the already deep lineup that includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and DJ LeMahieu.

Tampa Bay Rays +1400 (Bet $100 to win $1400)

Over the last three years, the Tampa Bay Rays have been a consistent playoff team. No matter what the roster turnover is, or how much money they spend, the Rays are always in the mix. Austin Meadows, Brandon Lowe, Mike Zunino, and Randy Arozarena is a great core but add Wander Franco to the mix and that changes everything.

He appeared in just 70 games but slashed .288/.347/.463 with seven homers and 39 RBI. He's just 21 years old and projects to be one of baseball's rising stars in 2022. Plus, with the addition of veteran starter Corey Kluber, they should totally be in the mix here.

Ironically, they are third in the AL East in World Series odds despite winning the division each of the past two years. Don't sleep on this team, just ask the Yankees and Red Sox what happens when you take them lightly.
