2022 Washington Nationals World Series Odds: Can Juan Soto and Young Talent Change the Odds?
It wasn’t long ago the Nationals were coming off a World Series victory. Now oddsmakers believe them to be among the worst teams in MLB. However, it’s not for a lack of top-end talent.

Nationals Team Futures
This time last year, oddsmakers believed the Nationals were a World Series dark horse. They were given +4000 odds to win it all, putting them squarely in the middle of the pack. This year those odds are down to +15000. That’s the biggest odds decrease from last year to this in MLB.
In fact, oddsmakers now give the Nationals +4000 odds just to win the NL East. Those are by far the worst odds in the division. The next worst belongs to the Miami Marlins at +1300.
Yet, oddsmakers think there are a few teams worse than the Nationals. There +7500 odds to win the National League are the fourth-worst in the league. The Rockies, +10000, the Diamondbacks, +12500, and the Pirates, +15000, are all worse.

Washington Nationals Players’ Futures
Despite the low expectations for the team, oddsmakers have sky-high expectations for the players on the Nationals. Nobody has higher expectations than Juan Soto.
Soto is the favorite to win the NL MVP with +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance. His biggest competition is expected to come from within the division with Ronald Acuna given +800 odds and Bryce Harper given +1000. The NL East race is going to have a major impact on this year’s MVP.
Oddsmakers also like the Nationals’ young talent. Keibert Ruiz is given +750 odds, or an implied 11.8% chance to win NL Rookie of the Year. That puts him second on the market behind only Oneil Cruz and his +375 odds.
The Nationals’ downfall is their pitching. Oddsmakers don’t have a Nationals pitcher among the top-30 on the Cy Young odds market. Their best odds are given to Patrick Corbin and Stephen Strasburg, both of whom have +12500 odds or an implied 0.8% chance to win the award.
