NL Cy Young Odds

Leading the way in the NL Cy Young odds is Jacob deGrom. He's been given +400 odds or an implied 20% chance to win the award in 2022. Oddsmakers have deGrom as low as +250 at some books to win the NL Cy Young. He is trailed by his newly acquired teammate "Mad" Max Scherzer. Oddsmakers have priced Scherzer at +800 implying an 11% chance he wins the NL Cy Young. At least one of Scherzer or deGrom has been among the top three in NL Cy Young Award voting every season since 2016 and both have been in the top three twice over that span.

Jacob deGrom was well on his way to winning his third NL Cy Young award last season before his year was cut short by injury. In 15 games he pitched to a 7-2 record a 1.08 ERA in 92 innings giving up just 11 earned runs and adding 146 strikeouts. He was clearly a machine and as long as he stays healthy, deGrom will surely be among the finalists in 2022.

I know it's only spring training but deGrom is in mid season form already and looks ready to go. In his first Spring Training start he pitched two innings striking out five, including the side in the first inning.

Scherzer finished third last season in NL Cy Young votes. He was traded to the Dodgers midseason and was dominant after joining. He pitched in 11 games going 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 68 innings he gave up just 15 earned runs and 89 strikeouts. The Mets signed the three-time Cy Young Award winner this offseason to a three-year deal worth $130 million. The 37-year-old future Hall of Famer will be a dominant force again this season back in the NL East where he spent seven seasons with the Nationals.

Trailing the Mets dynamic duo in the NL Cy Young odds is the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, Corbin Burnes. Burnes is given +900 odds at DraftKings which is an implied 10% chance he repeats as NL Cy Young. Ironically enough the last pitchers to repeat winning the NL Cy Young are Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom.

Oddsmakers give Dodgers ace Walker Buehler the next best odds at +1000 or an implied 9% chance to win. He managed to finish fourth last year in NL Cy Young voting. Walker Buehler shouldn't be counted out as he is projected to be the number one pitcher for the best team in baseball. In recent years individual wins and losses as a pitcher haven't been given as much weight in Cy Young voting. A guy in Buehler's position should be backed by plenty of run support every time he takes the mound.

The Phillies have two top-notch arms in their rotation as well that are among the top of the NL Cy Young odds grid. Aaron Nola and former Met, Zack Wheeler. Wheeler finished second last year behind Corbin Burnes and he may be among the leaders again in 2022. Nola has the third-highest pitching WAR since 2017 behind only no other than Scherzer and deGrom.

When it comes to longshots in the NL Cy Young odds there aren't many names that pop off the board. Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty at +4000 is one guy to watch as he finished fourth back in 2019 in NL Cy Young voting and after a down season in what was an odd 2020 for everyone he bounced back last season. He may be able to have a big year coming into his fifth season.
