MLB Stolen Base Leaders Odds: Will Trea Turner Swipe the Most Bags in 2022?

A lot of old-time fans will have you believe that "smart" baseball is gone. They'll have you believe that the sacrifice bunt is lost in our game today and that players just never know when to steal bases.

For many players that's probably true. The hit and run aren't used nearly as much and good situational hitting isn't what it was back in the day. However, there are some players that play the game the "right" way.

There are players who can bat leadoff, get on base and create havoc to score runs. Those are the players we'll be looking at right now. Here are the 2022 MLB stolen base leaders and their odds. Which players have the most value?

MLB Stolen Base Leaders Odds

  • Adalberto Mondesi (Royals) +250
  • Starling Marte (Mets) +400
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. (Braves) +500
  • Witt Merrifield (Royals) +600
  • Trea Turner (Dodgers) +700
  • Cedric Mullins (Orioles) +850

Stolen Base Leaders Odds Favorite: Adalberto Mondesi +250 (Bet $100 to Win $250)

Mondesi is a career .249 hitter with a career OBP of .283. That's not great. He's also never played a full season. In 2019, Mondesi played 102 games, which is his career-high in games played in a season.

Personally, I don't like Mondesi for those reasons but he does have 128 stolen bases in his career. In 2019, when he played 102 games, Mondesi stole 43 bags. Imagine him in a full season? Plus, the Royals lineup got a whole lot better in the off-season and he'll need to get into scoring position for them. Overall, he's got to stay healthy.

Stolen Base Leaders Odds Longshot: Trea Turner +700 (Bet $100 to Win $700)

Trea Turner's game is much better than Mondesi's. Last year, Turner swiped 32 bags between the Nationals and Dodgers. He had 11 with the Dodgers in 52 games and 21 with the Nationals in 96 games. The Dodgers figure to be more aggressive and obviously, the lineup for the Dodgers is so much more dangerous, giving Turner the green light more often to get into scoring position.

Trea Turner plays the game the right way. He's batting a career .303 average with a .358 OBP. That means that Turner is getting on base over 35 percent of the time. That's a solid rate to get some stolen bases throughout the season.
