MLB World Series Odds: Updated 2022 World Series Odds for All 30 Teams
Almost six weeks into the 2022 MLB season we have seen some dramatic swings in the World Series odds of many teams. Who has the best odds of winning the 2022 championship and what longshots provide the best value? This piece will look at the championship odds of all 30 MLB teams.
Check out my previous MLB World Series Odds piece.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2022 World Series Odds (+50000) (Bet $100 to win $50000)
Some outstanding (and surprising) pitching performances from Zac Gallen, Madison Bumgarner, and Merrill Kelly have led the Diamondbacks to a .500 record through 36 games. But with the Giants, Padres, and Dodgers above them, they face an extreme uphill battle to even make the postseason. Their peak is at least a few years away.
Atlanta Braves 2022 World Series Odds (+1600) (Bet $100 to win $1600)
The Braves face three main obstacles right now in their quest to repeat the championship. First, they started off extremely slow and sit 16-20, fourth in their own division. Second, Ronald Acuna is already hobbled again and is coming off major knee surgery. And third, the best team in the NL - the New York Mets - currently are in their division. I do like the Braves to rally to make the postseason, but they will have to win the World Series from the Wild Card.
Baltimore Orioles 2022 World Series Odds (+100000) (Bet $100 to win $100000)
The best thing you can say about the Orioles right now is they are only a half-game behind the Red Sox as play begins on May 17th. But that's more an indictment on Boston than an endorsement of Baltimore. They do have the best pitching and catching prospect coming sometime this year. But the World Series is a LONG way away.
Boston Red Sox 2022 World Series Odds (+6000) (Bet $100 to win $6000)
To say the Red Sox are just a half-game ahead of the Orioles tells you what a disappointing start it has been. Like the Diamondbacks, this is a team that has a monumental task of getting past three other divisional teams to reach the postseason. It's becoming more and more clear they may not have the starting pitching or the bullpen to get it done.
Chicago White Sox 2022 World Series Odds (+1800) (Bet $100 to win $1800)
For about the 26th year in a row, the White Sox are besieged by injuries on their roster. All of Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito, Luis Robert, and Joe Kelly have been or are injured. Yet they still are hanging around at 17-17. This team has the three components to win the whole thing (hitting, starting pitching, and bullpen), so I am warming on them as a longshot pick if they can get healthy by mid-June.
Chicago Cubs 2022 World Series Odds (+25000) (Bet $100 to win $25000)
This was always going to be seen as something of a transition year for the Cubs as they build towards another contender with a mix of veterans and young players. As they look for a new core in the post Rizzo-Bryant-Baez years, things look good with the strong play of Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, and Willson Contreras.
Cincinnati Reds 2022 World Series Odds (+200000) (Bet $100 to win $200000)
This is about as far away from a World Series contender as you can get. The scary thing is, that things could get worse if they trade off Luis Castillo or Mike Moustakas before the deadline.
Cleveland Guardians 2022 World Series Odds (+12000) (Bet $100 to win $12000)
The lack of one elite team in the division has the Guardians with eyes on the divisional crown. They have surprised everyone by scoring the third-most runs in the American League through six weeks. Shane Bieber and Tristan McKenzie have mostly looked very good so far, and Jose Ramirez is a legitimate MVP contender.
Colorado Rockies 2022 World Series Odds (+30000) (Bet $100 to win $30000)
Copy and paste the blurb from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but the Rockies would also have to leapfrog Arizona in addition to the three powerhouses in the division. The pitching has been slightly better than expected, but that's faint praise considering they play at Coors Field for 81 games.
Detroit Tigers 2022 World Series Odds (+25000) (Bet $100 to win $25000)
The Tigers' brass can not be happy about a last-place position in the weak AL Central after big free-agent additions in Javier Baez and Eduardo Rodriguez. Plus they called up their super prospect Spencer Torkelson to start the year, but he has been a disappointment. Doesn't look like it is going to happen for the Tigers and their anemic offense this season.
Houston Astros 2022 World Series Odds (+1000) (Bet $100 to win $1000)
The Astros surged back to the lead in the AL West after winning 11 straight games and on a current 8-2 streak. Only the Yankees have allowed fewer runs this season and they are fourth in the league in runs scored. They face a surprising challenger in the Angels this season, but the odds heavily favor the Astros making it back to the postseason. If they have a healthy Lance McCullers by that point, this team could make it back for the fourth time in six years.
Kansas City Royals 2022 World Series Odds (+30000) (Bet $100 to win $30000)
Sal Perez's power went away quickly (.398 slugging percentage) and their best pitcher is a 38-year-old who doesn't strike out anyone (Zach Greinke). Watch this team for the emergence of uber-prospect Bobby Witt, not for the postseason aspirations.
Los Angeles Angels 2022 World Series Odds (+2250) (Bet $100 to win $2250)
The Angels are scoring runs like it's 2002 all over again and their top-of-the-lineup trio of Taylor Ward, Shohei Ohtani, and Mike Trout has become one of the most lethal in the league. Their 186 runs scored are 13 more than any other AL team and the Ohtani-Patrick Sandoval-Michael Lorenzen part of the rotation has exceeded all expectations. Reid Detmers likely won't pitch any more no-hitters, but if that game propels him to another level, this will be a dangerous postseason team.
Los Angeles Dodgers 2022 World Series Odds (+500) (Bet $100 to win $500)
Your prohibitive World Series champion favorite until they suffer some kind of collapse or someone knocks them out of the playoffs. Clayton Kershaw turning back the clock certainly helps them and the Dodgers will do everything they can to make sure he is healthy for the postseason. This looks like another 100-win season is incoming.
Miami Marlins 2022 World Series Odds (+10000) (Bet $100 to win $10000)
The Marlins' offense is nowhere near the caliber of other postseason teams, but their pitching has been excellent. Only the Cardinals, Mets, and Dodgers have given up fewer runs this season and Pablo Lopez and Jesus Luzardo have all had moments of unhittable brilliance this year. Luzardo now on the IL is a big blow, but if they surround those pitchers with some bats, they have a bright future ahead.

Milwaukee Brewers 2022 World Series Odds (+1200) (Bet $100 to win $1200)
On the backs of a Big 4 pitching staff (Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, and Eric Lauer), the Brewers have stormed out to a commanding lead in the NL Central. And now their offense is starting to catch up, especially from the white-hot Kolten Wong and Christian Yelich. Oh yeah, and Devin Williams and Josh Hader are the most unhittable bullpen duo out there. This team has a legit shot and is great value at +1200.
Minnesota Twins 2022 World Series Odds (+3500) (Bet $100 to win $3500)
The Twins have by far the longest odds for any current division leader. The issue is that most believe the White Sox will eventually get healthy and take this division, and the division as a whole is not as strong as the West or East. That will mean there is likely only one team in the postseason from this division. But, and it's a huge but, the later we get into the season with the Pale Hose still dealing with injuries and the Twins in first, it will be harder to make the case the Twins don't deserve to be in.
New York Yankees 2022 World Series Odds (+800) (Bet $100 to win $800)
We knew the offense would be great on this team, but the Yankees have only allowed 100 runs scored in 35 games. That 3.5 runs per game have helped lead the Yankees staff to a league-low 2.72 ERA. Nestor Cortes has been a revelation and Gerrit Cole continues to pitch well. All five starters have an ERA under 3.70 and both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are absolutely hammering the ball right now. These odds might look silly by the time we get to October.
New York Mets 2022 World Series Odds (+800) (Bet $100 to win $800)
The Yankees' cross-town rival will also have a say in the supremacy of the city as they are also the best team in their league at 23-13. The acquisition of Chris Bassitt has been a godsend since they lost Jacob Degrom before the season began. If he gives them another half-season plus playoffs of excellence, this will be a hard team to beat. The reemergence of Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso makes this a very dangerous offense as well.
Oakland Athletics 2022 World Series Odds (+100000) (Bet $100 to win $100000)
They had a nice little run to start the year, but this is a team that sold away almost all their dollar bills for some spare change. It will be back to the drawing board for several years in Oakland as they try to figure out a new blueprint for winning.
Philadelphia Phillies 2022 World Series Odds (+3000) (Bet $100 to win $3000)
I may be way too far out on a limb here, but I really like the Phillies at +3000 right now. Yes, they are only 17-18 and 5.5 games behind the Mets. But this offense is built for summertime and they are about to start mashing. Bryce Harper with a UCL injury prevents him from playing the field, which has a compounding effect. They can put a better defender in the outfield now, but they have to play Harper at DH which means the gloves for Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos have to be in the field every day. But I still think that core plus Aaron Nola, Zach Wheeler, and Ranger Suarez have enough of everything to make a run.
Pittsburgh Pirates 2022 World Series Odds (+90000) (Bet $100 to win $90000)
Not now. Not in the short term. Not in the long term. This team is almost bereft of talent at the major league level yet refuse to bring up Oneil Cruz, Roansy Contreras, Nick Gonzales, or any other difference-making prospects.
San Diego Padres 2022 World Series Odds (+1800) (Bet $100 to win $1800)
The Padres are neck and neck with the Dodgers through six weeks primarily due to their outstanding starting rotation and Manny Machado looking like a man who wants an MVP and a playoff berth. San Diego has been able to roll out five above-average pitchers to start the year and made a key trade to bring in Taylor Rogers to solidify the back end of the bullpen. Watch out for this team when Fernando Tatis Jr. makes it back to the field.
San Francisco Giants 2022 World Series Odds (+2500) (Bet $100 to win $2500)
Somehow the Giants continue to get it done, scoring the third-most runs in the National League despite a lineup that many average baseball fans would have a hard time recognizing any player. The key to the success has been taking a chance on Carlos Rodon, who has pitched without incident this year and is a leading NL Cy Young candidate. With Tommy La Stella and Evan Longoria finally back on offense, we might see this Giants squad start to justifiably creep up this list.
Seattle Mariners 2022 World Series Odds (+7500) (Bet $100 to win $7500)
The sudden explosion of Julio Rodriguez's bat is offset by another demotion of Jarred Kelenic back to AAA. After a surprise run at the Wild Card last year, the Mariners have two teams way out ahead of them just 35 games into the season and the pitching (apart from Logan Gilbert) has been suspect. Big free-agent acquisition Robbie Ray is back to walking people again the strikeouts are down under 9.5 per nine innings. But what the Mariners really need is some consistency on offense, something that has eluded them since the Ichiro Suzuki, Nelson Cruz days.

St. Louis Cardinals 2022 World Series Odds (+3500) (Bet $100 to win $3500)
The Cardinals start to fall into the same category as the White Sox and Twins if you begin to look closely. The Brewers are already pulling ahead in the division, and the Cardinals don't have the pitching to keep up over a very long season. With the two NL Wild cards almost assuredly coming from the NL East and the NL West, St. Louis must get in an old-fashioned way. But the Brewers are going to make it a very tough battle to win this year. Cardinals fans should enjoy the regular-season version of Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, and Adam Wainwright while they still have them for this last ride.
Tampa Bay Rays 2022 World Series Odds (+2000) (Bet $100 to win $2000)
Losing two of their hottest hitters - Brandon Lowe and Manuel Margot - in the same week is a brutal blow to a fun team that was starting to really produce on offense. Perhaps prized rookie Vidal Brujan can come up and give them a huge lift, but I'm betting on the Toronto Blue Jays to pass this team in the race for the postseason. I don't see a complete enough team to compete for a World Series, but the real test will be can they hang onto a Wild Card spot over the Angels, Twins, or Red Sox.
Texas Rangers 2022 World Series Odds (+40000) (Bet $100 to win $40000)
New addition Marcus Semien is either the worst or second-worst hitter in the major leagues depending on which metric you decide to use. But it's safe to say this was not what the Rangers expected after signing him to a seven-year, $175 million contract. There was a question before the season about whether two elite hitters (Corey Seager being the other) could turn around a whole franchise. We still don't know because Semien isn't coming anywhere close to pulling (or batting) his weight.
Toronto Blue Jays 2022 World Series Odds (+1000) (Bet $100 to win $1000)
In the playoffs, you need the one true shutdown ace that you can count on for three wins in a seven-game series. The Blue Jays may have that in Kevin Gausman. He is miles ahead of every other pitcher in WAR, mostly because he strikes out 11 batters per game and never walks anyone (0.40 BB/9). He is the leader of the pack in Cy Young contention right now and we know the Toronto offense is lethal. The +1000 odds here are still good value for this team pulling the whole thing out.
Washington Nationals 2022 World Series Odds (+100000) (Bet $100 to win $100000)
Maybe surround Juan Soto and Keibert Ruiz with some other competent pieces and starting pitchers who don't get hurt all the time, and then we can talk. Until then, they are just an afterthought in this tough division.

Proudest husband and dad you will ever find. When I'm not with my wife and two kids I split my time working in higher ed, grinding DFS and season-long, collecting silver age comics, studying behavioral economics, and drinking coffee. I once played Pat Connaughton in an actual NBA DFS lineup for money. Astros, Rockets, and Texans for life.
