New York Mets World Series Odds: Do the Odds Change After Max Scherzer’s Injury?
Prior to the start of the season, the Mets were already among the favorites to win the World series. Oddsmakers gave them +1200 odds, or an implied 7.7% chance to win the World Series. Their odds have only improved from there, and not even Scherzer’s injury can derail them. Here are the MLB World Series Odds.

Prior to Scherzer’s injury, the Mets were given +800 odds, or an implied 11.1% chance to win the World Series. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers had better odds at +475, or an implied 17.4% chance to win it all. After Scherzer’s injury, the Mets’ odds remained the same at +800.
Bettors see things a little differently though. Prior to Scherzer’s injury 40% of bets were placed on the Mets to win the World Series making them the clear bettors’ favorite. However, they’ve now dropped to 16.4% of bets. That puts the Mets second on the betting market behind only the Los Angeles Angels with 22.1% of bets.
The Mets have the most wins in the National League and the largest divisional lead in MLB. However, they’re about to run into a stretch of games beginning on May 23rd where they play 16 of 22 games against teams currently over .500, with 13 of those games coming on the road. They’ll do that without Jacob deGrom or Max Scherzer, which is a nightmare scenario. Yet, oddsmakers not only expect the Mets to continue their strong play, but to solidify themselves as a World Series contender. The faith oddsmakers have is astounding, and while bettors have clearly lost faith in the Mets it says a lot that they have the Mets as their second favorite to win it all.
