Mets MLB Trade Rumors: 5 Trade Options for the Mets at the Trade Deadline

With the MLB Trade deadline looming, teams who are going all in for a championship will be looking to buy to add some depth to their roster. One of those teams expected to be active is the New York Mets.

The Mets hold a two-game lead on the Atlanta Braves who have been unbelievably hot and are charging fast. If they want to hold off Atlanta, they need to add. Here are five players they can target at the MLB Trade Deadline.

Juan Soto

The big name that everyone is hoping to land is Juan Soto. Soto will not be extending with the Washington Nationals so they will likely seek a trade partner although there is no real rush to move him at this time. The Mets with Steve Cohen at the helm now have the means to extend him to a record-breaking contract.

Soto, who was an All-Star once again for Washington, has an .895 OPS and 20 homers to his name already this year. At just 23 years old he is going to make some franchise happy for a very, very long time.

Trey Mancini

With Dom Smith and JD Davis being completely ineffective, DH has been a major concern for this Mets team. Trey Mancini would go a long way to helping mitigate some of those issues though. Even though his power numbers are down a little bit, he's still hitting .268 with a .749 OPS. He likely won't be super costly and he provides insurance at first base for the Mets behind Pete Alonso if need be.

Mancini heroically overcame colon cancer in 2020 and won Comeback Player of the Year in 2021. It'll be a sad goodbye in Baltimore but the end is near for Mancini with the Orioles.

Josh Bell

Since joining the Nationals, Josh Bell has been phenomenal regaining his early career form. Like Mancini, his power numbers are down a little bit but he is still hitting .302 with an .879 OPS to his name. The Nationals love him as he's been one of their best hitters but as they are sitting in last place in the National League East does it make sense to keep him on an expiring contract?

The Mets being in the same division may make this one tricky but a switch hitter like Bell who could play first or DH would be a really nice addition to this Mets lineup.

Wilson Contreras

Saying the Mets have gotten nothing out of their catchers might be putting it lightly. Tomas Nido has a .495 OPS, Patrick Mazeika a .486 OPS, and James McCann a .543 OPS. They've also combined for just three home runs on the season. It's bad, bad.

Wilson Contreras would just be a rental as they have Francisco Alvarez waiting in the wings to take over at the position most likely in 2023. Contreras has an .847 OPS and 14 homers so far on the year in 81 games.

Scott Barlow

Relief help would also be an area the Mets could look to add at. Scott Barlow, who has term remaining on his deal, would be the prized possession to any bullpen at the deadline. He has 16 saves and is pitching to a 1.93 ERA for Kansas City. In fact, since the start of 2021, Barlow is pitching to a 2.23 ERA in 113 games with just nine home runs allowed.

Outside of Edwin Diaz, there are some question marks in this Mets bullpen. An addition of Scott Barlow would certainly help put some of those questions to rest.
