Subway Series Odds: Yankees Given a 53% Chance to Win Game 1 Against the Mets

A tradition unlike any other in New York sports is the Subway Series. Since 1997, these two teams began meeting during the regular season, and they've played each other every year since that point.

Heck, they even met in the World Series back in 2000 which saw the Yankees come out victorious in five games to earn their third championship in a row and fourth in five years. Flashforward to 2022, and both of these teams are at the top of their division and are legit World Series contenders.

When looking at this matchup tonight, who is favored? Here's a deep dive on the Subway Series odds for the New York Mets vs. New York Yankees.

Subway Series Odds Breakdown

For the Subway Series, oddsmakers are giving the New York Yankees the slight edge heading into today. The Yanks are given a 53.49% chance of coming away with the victory tonight while the Mets are given a 48.78% chance according to the odds.

The Mets are sending out Taijuan Walker who has been excellent this year. He's 7-2 with a 2.55 ERA for New York after a tough end to the season in 2021. The Yankees on the other hand are starting Jordan Montgomery who has impressed with a 3.24 ERA of his own.

After struggling down in Houston, the Yankees came back and took care of business taking two of three from the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets have dropped three of their last four and in those losses scored two, one, and one runs. They came back alive for an eight spot on Sunday but the offense has been struggling a little bit for the Metsies after their hot start.

With the Braves nipping at the heels of the Mets in the National League East, they need this one more but that doesn't mean that the Yankees are just going to roll over and die. These teams take pride in this series. Expect a good one tonight from two of the league's best.
