Early 2023 MLB Mock Draft: Predicting the Entire First Round of the 2023 MLB Draft
Early 2023 MLB Mock Draft: Predicting the Entire First Round of the 2023 MLB Draft
At the time of writing this, we're still six days away from the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline. A lot of things can change.
We'll also see some of the top prospects fall due to injuries or poor play while others will rise on boards as next season begins. This is an early mock draft. Expect things to change. But we'll have fun with this.
The draft order is currently based on records in the 2022 season as of July 27. Again, things will more than likely change.
2023 MLB First-Round Mock Draft
1. Nationals: Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS (Franklin, IN.)
Max Clark is a Vanderbilt recruit who has a ton of power. He'll ultimately burst onto the scene this year as the number one draft pick.
2. Athletics: Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick HS (Oak Island, NC)
The Athletics are going to want to be patient as well. They're in rebuild mode and can go after Jenkins who can hit liners for incredible velocities. He's got ridiculous power and he hasn't come close to reaching his ceiling.
3. Reds: Dylan Crews, OF, LSU
Crews figures to be the best college prospect in baseball. He has had an OPS of 1.135 in two seasons with the Tigers and can hit for average along with power. He's got a bright future. The Reds would love to build around Crews, who could easily be the first pick in the draft.
4. Tigers: Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
The first pitcher will come off the board here. Dollander went from Georgia Southern to Tennessee and didn't disappoint last season, holding a 10-0 record with a 2.39 ERA. He also struck out 108 batters while walking just 13 in 79 innings.
5. Royals: Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Ole Miss
The Royals can build around Bobby Witt Jr. and Jacob Gonzalez with this pick. That would be a crazy infield pairing. Gonzalez had an OPS of 1.000 as a freshman with Ole Miss. He also hit 18 home runs and scouts say he's got a great eye at the plate.
6. Pirates: Thomas White, LHP, Phillips Academy (Rawley, MA)
7. Cubs: Enrique Bradfield, OF, Vanderbilt
8: Angels: Will Sanders, RHP, South Carolina
9. Rangers: Blake Mitchell, C, Sinton HS
10. Rockies: Noble Meyer, RHP, Jesuit HS (Portland, OR)
Meyer can throw 98 mph and has a weird arm angle when he throws, making it tough for hitters to time him. He's also developing off-speed stuff and has a lanky frame that could be lethal at the big league level.

11. Diamondbacks: Kevin McGonigle, SS, Monsignor Bonner HS (Aldan, PA)
12. Marlins: Dylan Cipp, SS, Cedartown HS (Cedartown, GA)
13. Giants: Brock Wilken, 3B, Wake Forest
14. Red Sox: Yohandy Morales, 3B, Miami
15. Orioles: Hurston Waldrep, RHP, Southern Miss
16. White Sox: Travis Sykora, RHP, Round Rock HS
17: Guardians: Eric Bitonti, SS, Aquinas HS
Bitonti is a left-handed bat who committed to Oregon. He won't even turn 18 until December and still has all the tools that could make him a first-round selection. He's got incredible power and great discipline at the plate.
18. Phillies: Jacob Wilson, SS, Grand Canyon
19. Cardinals: Rhett Lowder, RHP, Wake Forest
20. Rays: Roch Cholowsky, SS, Hamilton HS
The Rays always have a good eye for infielders. Here's another. Cholowsky has a great arm in the field and even with his length, scouts believe that he has an "advanced barrel" where he can hit anywhere on the field. He would be a great find for the Rays.
