Brandon Drury Trade Grades: Grading The Trade for the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds

The biggest move for the San Diego Padres was landing superstar, Juan Soto. While they also landed Josh Bell in that deal they weren't done, as they also traded for Brandon Drury who is having a resurgent year for the Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds made out well on the return though despite giving up a solid player. Here's a look at how both the Padres and Reds graded out on this move.

Brandon Drury Trade Grades

Padres Grade: B+

Josh Hader, Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and then the cherry on top Brandon Drury. Granted, he's not an All-Star but he is having a very solid season for Cincinnati. In 92 games he's batting .274 with 20 homers 59 RBI nad an .855 OPS on the year. He's extremely serviceable at the dish and can play third base, second base, or the outfield if need be.

Again, he's no Soto but he is the kind of player that every championship team needs to fill out their roster. He's owned lefties this year with a whopping 1.016 OPS on the season against southpaws.

Reds Grade: A

Yes, the Reds gave up a good player but this team isn't going anywhere. They signed him to a minor league deal in march and flipped him for an 18-year-old shortstop with upside. He's played in the Dominican Summer League in 2021 as a 17-year-old and tore it up. This year, in 2022 he's been a little streaky but is still so young that he is certainly groomable for a Reds team that needs a lot of help.

This isn't about 2022 for the Reds, who pretty much went into the year in sell mode, this is all about how they can prepare for the future, which is why this grades out so high.
