2022 NL Cy Young Race: Is Sandy Alcantara a Lock for NL Cy Young Award?

Sportsbooks believe the National League Cy Young winner has already been chosen. Sandy Alcantara has been so dominant this season that it’s no longer much of a race. Let's dive into the NL Cy Young odds.

MLB NL Cy Young Race Odds Breakdown

After yet another dominant start last night, Alcantara is given -210 odds, or an implied 67.7% chance to win the NL Cy Young. Only two other pitchers are even within shouting distance. Carlos Rodon is given +550 odds, or an implied 15.4% chance to win the award. Meanwhile, Corbin Burnes is given +700 odds, or an implied 12.5% chance to win his second straight Cy Young.

If Alcantara wins the award, he’d be the first in Marlins history to do so. That would leave the Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers as the only franchises to never take home the award.

Sandy Alcantara is in the driver’s seat here for the Cy Young race. Unless he collapses down the stretch but if not then he’s going to take home the Cy Young and there’s not much anyone else can do. However, he wouldn’t be the first to let a major early August lead slip away for the Cy Young race. Just in 2019, Hyun-Jin Ryu finished second after having a commanding lead in August, -150 odds. Alcantara may be the clear favorite now, but it only takes a few rough starts for everything to change.
