NL East Odds: Braves Given a 39% Chance of Winning the Division After Catching the Mets

After the Mets fell 8-2 in Pittsburgh, the Atlanta Braves pulled out a 10-9 victory in Oakland. The reason why this is such a big deal is because with that win and the Mets loss, the Braves and Mets are now tied at the top of the NL East.

Through 136 games, both teams are 85-51. Who will finish the season at the top of the NL East? Let's look at what the NL East odds have to say about it.

NL East Odds Breakdown

The New York Mets, despite losing their lead, are still the favorites to win the NL East. It hasn't so much been about the Mets "collapsing". Since June 1, the Mets have gone 51-34 which is a .600 winning percentage. For full context, a .600 win percentage over a full season is a 97-win season.

Make no mistake about it, the Mets have been and still are very good. The reason the Braves closed the gap on a 10.5 game lead is because they have gone 62-24. That is a .721 win percentage over that span. That's a pace of 117 wins over a full season which would be the most wins in a season in baseball history. The Atlanta Braves are literally playing historic baseball right now.

Currently, there's a slight scare for the Mets as Max Scherzer is going on the IL and Starling Marte had to exit last night's game due to getting hit by a pitch. Meanwhile, the Braves are winners of seven of their last 10 and coming in blazing hot.

These two teams meet in a three-game set in the final week of the year. It will more than likely come down to that series to decide the NL East crown.
