2022 MLB Playoff Picture: Ranking the Most Likely Playoff Teams With Two Weeks to Go
Not much has changed in the MLB Playoff Picture over the last couple of weeks. But there are still plenty of tight races that could go either way. We'll predict the 12 playoff teams with just two weeks to go in the MLB regular season. Let us know if you agree!
National League Playoff Picture
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers already clinched the NL West and have 101 wins. They're going to be the one seed. No questions asked.
2. New York Mets
The Mets still lead the NL East by one game. It's not that the Mets have poorly played throughout the year. The Braves are just dominating opponents throughout the second half of the year. This is a tight race in the NL East, but the Mets have held their ground through it all.
3. St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis leads the NL Central by 8.5 games. That's .5 games more than last week when we wrote this article. The Cardinals will eventually win the NL Central and become the third seed in the National League.
4. Atlanta Braves
The Braves have 92 wins, while the Mets have 94 wins. They're out of the NL East by one game with two weeks. The Mets will likely win the NL East due to the strength of schedule, but either way, the Braves will be in the playoffs with the number one Wild Card spot in the NL.
5. San Diego Padres
The Padres are now .5 games above the Phillies for the second wild-card spot. San Diego is 6-4 in their last ten and are getting insane performances from Yu Darvish. I like the Padres to finish with a better record than the Phillies. The Padres have moved to the 5-spot in the NL.
6. Milwaukee Brewers
I think we see an epic collapse from the Phillies. The Phillies are 2.5 games ahead of the Brewers in the NL Wild Card, but they've lost four straight games. The Brewers haven't helped their case, losing two straight, but still went 6-4 in their last ten while the Phillies went 5-5.
The Phillies couldn't pick up a game against the Braves. They don't belong in the playoffs. I'll take the Brewers to earn that final NL spot.
American League Playoff Picture
1. Houston Astros
The Houston Astros have clinched the AL West after leading by 15 games over the Mariners. They've won 97 games and are easily the best team in the American League.
2. New York Yankees
As I suggested last week, despite the poor play from the Yankees, they'd still win the AL East. They were up 4.5 games last week and now have a 5.5-game lead coming into this week. A lot has gone wrong for the Yankees but they'll still finish with the two spot in the American League.
3. Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians are pulling away in the AL Central. The Minnesota Twins fell to seven games out of the division while the White Sox are still four games out despite going 7-3 in their last 10. That's because the Guardians won eight of their last 10 games and just earned their 80th win last night.
4. Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto has gained some ground in the AL Wild Card, going 6-4 in their last 10. They're still 6.5 games above the Orioles, who are on the outside looking in. Therefore, the Blue Jays will end up in the playoffs, we just don't know if it'll be the first AL Wild Card spot of the third.
5. Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays love platoon guys. This year, things just haven't worked out nearly as well as they'd like. But they're still in prime position to earn a playoff spot and when the Rays are in the playoffs, anything can happen. They have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. We'll see if the hitting can do enough though.
6. Seattle Mariners
I think the entire world is hoping the Mariners can end their playoff drought and make the postseason. They're five games above the Orioles for the final spot but just 1.5 games away from the fourth wild card spot in the American League. Like all of these AL Wild Card teams. They'll likely all make it, but figuring out where each team will finish is the challenge.
I like the AL East teams to finish ahead of the Mariners.
