Aaron Judge Next Team

Aaron Judge will be one of the most sought-after free agents of all time. A reigning MVP has never left their team in free agency in the history of MLB. In fact, since the MVP award was created, only two reigning MVPs have ever changed teams. Alex Rodriguez was traded to the Yankees after winning in 2003, and Giancarlo Stanton was also traded to the Yankees after winning in 2017. Now the Yankees stand to become the first team to ever lose a reigning MVP to the free agent market, with the Giants, Mets, and Dodgers leading a packed field of contenders looking for Judge’s signature.

Close to Judge’s hometown, the San Francisco Giants are the current favorites at +200. That’s an implied 33.3% chance of Judge deciding to play closest to home. They’re followed by the Yankees' crosstown rivals, the New York Mets, who are given +250 odds or an implied 28.6% chance to land him. With Steve Cohen as the Mets owner, the Mets can likely offer Judge a generous pile of money. The Dodgers trail in third with +350 odds, or an implied 22.2% chance.

The fall-off after the top three is pretty steep. The AL Champion Astros are fourth on the market, but they’re given +600 odds, or an implied 14.3% chance. The Red Sox and Rangers, both at +800, are the only other teams even given a 10% chance to land Judge. With no income taxes in Texas, could that be enticing enough for Judge as it was Corey Seager last offseason when he inked a 10-year $325 million dollar contract with the Rangers? It's most likely that if Judge were to leave the Yankees, he will either sign with a team in California closer to his hometown or stay in New York and move across the city to collect a major payday from the Mets.
