Carlos Correa has opted out of his contract with the Minnesota Twins and instantly become one the top free agents on the market this winter. As a result, Correa is expected to have many suitors, but one stands out. Sportsbooks feel pretty confident that Correa will end up with the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs are given +250 odds, or an implied 28.6% chance to land Correa. Those are the best odds that any team is given to land a free agent this offseason. The Cubs' most significant competition is expected to be the Twins, who are given +550 odds, or an implied 15.4% chance to re-sign Correa. The competition will be fierce, though, as all 10 teams on the market have at least a 10% chance to land the star shortstop.
Perhaps the most surprising team on the market, though, is the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore is given +800 odds, or an implied 11.1% chance to make the splash move. Those odds are better than the ones given to the Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves, and Yankees. They still trail the Cubs at the top of the market, but according to the books, Orioles GM and former Astros executive, Mike Elias has his team in the hunt.
This is yet another year with a star-studded shortstop class. Correa is just one of many, joining Xander Bogaerts, Trea Turner, and Dansby Swanson on the market. So, it should be no surprise that the market is expected to be competitive because it’s hard to tell what teams will prioritize which star player. For now, though, the Cubs are far out in front for Correa, and in large part because they’re expected to land one of the star shortstops. They’re also +450 to land Swanson, +650 to land Turner, and +750 to land Bogaerts. Correa may be their shortstop of choice, but the books are confident they’ll do everything possible to land one of them.
