Yankees Rumors: New York is now the Betting Favorite to Sign Trea Turner
Less than a week ago, sportsbooks were certain that Trea Turner was headed to the Philadelphia Phillies. It was the only free-agent market in the last two years where a team had better than a 50% chance to land their target. Just four days later, there’s been a massive shift.
Trea Turner is arguably the best shortstop in baseball. Need a 5-tool guy? Trea Turner is your man. Speed, contact, power, glove, he does it all.

The Phillies were given -125 odds when the market opened earlier this week, those odds are now down to +175. That’s a shift from a 55.6% chance to a 36.4% chance. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees have seen their odds shoot to the moon, going from +500 when the market opened to -125 today. A shift from a 16.7% chance to a 55.6% chance.
Team | Odds on November 11th | Odds on November 15th |
---|---|---|
New York Yankees | +500 | -125 |
Philadelphia Phillies | -125 | +175 |
San Francisco Giants | +700 | +900 |
Atlanta Braves | +800 | +1000 |
Baltimore Orioles | +800 | +1000 |
St. Louis Cardinals | +700 | +1200 |
Chicago Cubs | +850 | +1200 |
Boston Red Sox | +1000 | +2000 |
The top of the market isn’t the only place that’s seen a massive shift either. When the market opened, seven teams were given at least a 10% chance to land Turner. Now it’s just the Phillies, Yankees, and San Francisco Giants who sit at +900, or an implied 10% chance to land him.
The Cardinals, Braves, Orioles, Cubs, and Red Sox have all seen their odds lengthen drastically.

A major reason why the Phillies have seen their odds lengthen so sharply is that sportsbooks now believe that they will land Xander Bogaerts. The Phillies were originally +450 to land Bogaerts, second to the Cardinals, they’re now given +200 odds, or an implied 33.3% chance, making them the clear favorites. With a major competitor out of the way and other teams seemingly focused on other players, the Giants on Aaron Judge, +200, for example, the Yankees seem in the clear in their pursuit of Turner.
