The book has been opened on next season’s NBA Championship, with the Golden State Warriors +600 favorites to lift the trophy.
The Los Angeles Lakers are their nearest challengers at +850, with the reigning Raptors and Houston Rockets next up at +900 and +1000 respectively.
At the other end of the market, the Phoenix Suns sit rock bottom with odds of +50000, meaning that a $5 bet would return $2500 if the unthinkable happened.
An interesting pick in the middle of the book is the Pelicans are deemed to be a relative long shot at +18000 – although the acquisition of a certain Zion Williamson in the draft could see their odds slashed.
Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “The Raptors - roared on by celebrity super fan Drake, secured a debut championship which few would have believed possible, considering they were as long as +2500 after going 2-0 down to the Bucks in the Conference Finals in May.
“A busy summer of free agency looks set to make an impact, and with so many big stars possibly on the move it explains the surprisingly short odds for the Lakers, Knicks and Nets amongst others.
“However, the books have spoken and they believe that the conquered Warriors become the conquerors in twelve months’ time.
“And although it’s very early days, the bettors have so far agreed with this assessment, with the Warriors enjoying a whopping 45% of the total bets placed through Oddschecker.”
