Following the announcement that the NBA would be returning, the betting market for which team will win the championship has received a huge spike in wagers.

And despite the fact that the Portland Trail Blazers are currently 14th-favorites and heavy outsiders to win their second ever championship, they have been very well backed in the betting market.

Although only 3% of bets on the ‘NBA Winner’ market (link below) have gone on Portland, they account for 13% of the handle (total amount of cash). Only the Los Angeles Lakers account for more of the handle with 21%, while the current favorites in the market – the Milwaukee Bucks – have just 8%.

_Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “_Quite simply, this trend means that the bets which have been placed on the Blazers have been for very large sums indeed, suggesting a small group of individuals know something that the rest of us don’t!”

“With odds of +25000, a $10 bet on Portland would net a cool profit of $2500 if they can invoke the spirit of ’77, and clearly some individuals have been confident enough to stake plenty more than that.”
