NBA Championship Odds: Golden State's Odds Drift After Klay Thompson Injury

Klay Thompson looks set for a lengthy spell off the court following a suspected serious injury, and sportsbooks have reacted accordingly.
The betting odds for the Golden State Warriors to win the 2021 NBA Championship were +950 just 24 hours ago. These odds carried an implied chance of 9.52% that they would win the championship this year and put them fifth-favorites in the oddsmakers estimations.
However, after the news of Thompson’s injury broke, the odds have been lengthened to +1200. As a result, their implied chance has dropped to 7.69% and they have slipped to be the seventh most-likely winners with bookmakers.
Golden State now find themselves behind Toronto, Miami, Boston, Brooklyn, Milwaukee and both Los Angeles teams.
OddsChecker reported last month that the Warriors had attracted more bets than any other team in the first few weeks following the opening of the 2021 book, but interest in them has tailed off and it is now Brookyln Nets who are catching the eye of sports gamblers.
OddsChecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “"The Warriors, as well as bettors, were stunned when news of Klay Thompson's injury surfaced. After missing the entirety of last season following an ACL injury sustained in Game 6 of the Finals in 2019, another serious injury is incredibly cruel.”
“It also leaves the Dubs without one of the greatest shooters to play the game, breaking up his partnership with Steph Curry and potentially marking the end of the Warriors dynasty, which many thought could bounce back in 2021."
