NBA Odds: Bettors Favoring Suns in Opener Against Mavericks
Wednesday night marks the first full slate of NBA games for the 2020-2021 regular season. Tuesday kicked the season off as the Nets topped the Warriors and the Clippers beat the Lakers in the battle of LA, but there are 13 games to be played tonight.
Perhaps the most intriguing game of the night is also the last game to get underway. The Dallas Mavericks, featuring young superstar Luka Doncic, travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns, led by Devin Booker, Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton and Cameron Johnson.
Both these teams come into the season with high expectations. The addition of Chris Paul may be the thing that Phoenix needs to take the next step. Devin Booker is already a superstar, but how much better will they look with CP3 in the lineup?
As for Dallas, Doncic is considered by most as the best young player in the NBA and already a top-5 talent. Kristaps Porzingis will unfortunately miss the season opener, but Josh Richardson and Tim Hardaway Jr. are sure to get theirs.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns Betting
With a healthy Kristaps Porzingis in the lineup, I have a feeling we would see the Mavericks as the favorite ahead of Wednesday night’s game. But, without Porzingis, the Mavs come into their opener as 1-point underdogs in most places.
Dallas was an even .500 against the spread in 2019-2020, going 39-39-3. The Suns were slightly better at 37-35-1.
While the oddsmakers may be expecting a toss-up, the betting public is fading Doncic and the Mavs. 83% of all moneyline wages on this game are backing the Suns.
