NBA Trade Rumors: Kristaps Porzingis Trade Could Turn Dallas Mavericks Playoff Odds On Their Head
The Dallas Mavericks currently sit ninth in the Western Conference. They sit just one game out of a traditional NBA playoff spot. Most of that is due to the MVP caliber play of Luka Doncic. However, Kristaps Porzingis is carrying his own weight, at least when he’s healthy.
The Latvian forward is averaging 20.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. He isn’t the superstar the Mavericks thought they were getting when they agreed to trade two first-round picks to the New York Knicks. That said, Porzingis is still one of the better power forwards in the NBA.
That hasn’t stopped the Dallas Mavericks from talking about a fire sale. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report is reporting that the Mavs are asking around the league about Porzingis’ potential trade value. Ian Begley of SNY is also reporting that the Mavericks have reached out to the Golden State Warriors about a potential Porzingis trade.

The Mavericks are currently favored to earn a playoff spot with FanDuel giving them -265 odds. A trade of Porzingis would throw those odds completely out of whack. Without the unicorn, the Mavericks have nothing behind Doncic. The two next best scorers on the team are Tim Hardaway Jr., 17.1 PPG, and Josh Richardson, 12.7 PPG. No other player on the team even averages 5.5 rebounds per game.
Doncic is an outstanding talent, one of the best in the NBA. Still, it’s hard to see how he can carry a team with such little talent behind him to a playoff spot alone.
