NBA Championship Betting & Odds: Nets Overtake Lakers As Bettor's Favorites

NBA Championship Betting Data: Nets Overtake Lakers As Bettor's Favorites
The Los Angeles Lakers may be the reigning NBA champions and oddsmakers’ favorite at +270, but bettors have a new apple of their eye. 30.23% of all bets placed on the NBA Champion over the past seven days have been on the Nets, who sit at +375. That makes them the new bettors’ favorite. The Lakers fall to second with 22.09% of all bets.

The change comes shortly after the Nets defeated the Lakers in Los Angeles. That loss was the beginning of what has turned into a three-game losing streak for the Lakers. Meanwhile, the Nets have won six in a row.
The glaring weakness for the Lakers right now is their health. Star center Anthony Davis is out with a calf strain. The injury is going to keep Davis out of action for at least three weeks. The Lakers are 5-4 without Davis, including their current three-game losing streak. With Davis in the lineup, the Lakers are 17-6.
He’s a major reason for the Lakers’ success. LeBron James can only do so much without Davis. That’s why the Lakers currently sit third in the Western Conference. That reliance on James and Davis is a big reason why the Lakers are falling in the eyes of bettors.

Now, the Nets aren’t much better as they rely heavily on their own trio of James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving. James Harden has played in all but one game since being traded to the Nets. Kyrie Irving has missed time, but it’s been for non-injury reasons. Kevin Durant has missed time due to injury, but he hasn’t dealt with any serious injuries.
That extra health that the Nets have has put them over the top. It also helps to have a superstar trio and not a duo.
