NBA Championship Odds: Heat's Odds Cut Following Oladipo Trade
The Miami Heat got the prized jewel of the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline. Victor Oladipo is headed to Miami in a deal that will also send Kelly Olynyk, Avery Bradley and a draft pick swap headed to Houston.
Oladipo is an All-Star level player when he’s healthy. That’s been an issue throughout his career, he’s only played in 84 games out of a possible 197 over the last three years. That’s why oddsmakers don’t see a major shift in the odds for the Heat.
Miami came into the day with +4600 odds, or a 2.1% chance to win the NBA Championship. They leave with +4000 odds, or a 2.4% chance to win the NBA Championship. A shift that shows that this trade is a good one for the Heat, but it also shows that oddsmakers don’t see Oladipo as a major difference maker.
If Victor Oladipo is healthy then the Heat just stole the best player on the market. He’s an elite defensive wing, a strong scorer, and a facilitator when needed. There’s very little Oladipo can’t do on a basketball court. However, those injury concerns are major red flags. There’s no telling how many games he’ll play the rest of the year or even if the Heat could count on him for a playoff run. So, oddsmakers hesitation is more than reasonable despite the big name trade.
