Warriors vs. Lakers NBA Playoff Odds: LeBron Favored in Clash vs. Curry

Honestly, who thought this would be a play-in matchup? I mean, the defending NBA champions taking on Steph Curry? That’s a Western Conference Finals series not a play-in series. Yet, here we are, and Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers odds don’t even indicate it’s that close.

The Lakers have underperformed all year, mostly due to injuries to Anthony Davis and LeBron James. Both Davis and James are back now and fresh for a playoff run. Coming off an NBA title last year, oddsmakers were never going any other way. Still, it’s not impossible that Steph Curry just takes over. If that happens, then there’s no reason to believe the Warriors couldn’t pull off the upset. After all, it already happened once this year.

The X-factor here is simple, which star performs the best. When LeBron and Curry are on the floor at the same time, the game almost always devolves into James v. Curry instead of Lakers vs. Warriors. The two of them have been in so many battles that it’s almost expected at this point. Whichever dominates the game will likely will their team to victory. That has seemed to be the one consistent in all of their matchups.

Warriors vs. Lakers Betting

According to Lakers vs. Warriors odds, the Los Angeles Lakers are given the best odds to win of any team in the play-in tournament, by far. Oddsmakers give them -265 odds, or an implied 72.6% chance to take the 7th seed. Meanwhile, the Warriors are given just +235 odds, or an implied 29.9% chance to pull off the upset. Most point spreads range from the Lakers -8.5/Warriors +8.5 to the Lakers -6/Warriors +6, .

The Lakers won the regular season series. However, the Warriors are a different team then they were at that time, winning six in a row and 8 of their last 9 heading into this game.

The Lakers were mostly able to hold Curry in check during the regular season. In their three games, Curry averaged 23 points per game, considerably down from this season average of 32.

It hasn’t been much different on LeBron’s part. During their three games, he averaged 20 points per game. The good news for the Lakers though is both of their wins against the Warriors without Anthony Davis. They’ll be getting him back for this one.

It’s no surprise to see Lakers vs. Warriors odds and point spread so lopsided. They blew out the Warriors in their last two meetings and did so without Davis. Now fully healthy, there’s little reason to believe their play is going to worsen.
