Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks: Odds, Preview & Predictions

The Knicks and Hawks are set to play the tightest series oddsmakers have on the docket. They honestly have no idea which way the series will end up going.

Oddsmakers have no clue what’s going to happen in the Knicks and Hawks series. It’s the tightest series in the first round, and that usually means it’ll come to down to which star performs the best. The Knicks are widely considered to have the best player in the series in Julius Randle, but Trae Young has been known to take over games himself. When it comes down to this series likely comes down to two things, can the Hawks deal with the scoring off the Knicks bench, and can the Knicks defense stop the Hawks three point shooting? Oddsmakers don’t have an answer right now.

Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks Betting Odds & Data

The series currently has no oddsmaker favorite. Both the Hawks and Knicks are given -110 odds or an implied 52.4% chance to win the series. The series does have a bettors’ favorite though. Over the last 24 hours, 60% of the bets have been on the Knicks to knockoff the Hawks and head on to the second round.

Even when looking at series outcomes, no decision has been made. The Hawks in 6 and Knicks in 7 are both tied with +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance of being the likeliest outcome. The least likely outcome is a sweep by either team. The Hawks are given +1200 odds, or an implied 7.7% chance to pull off a sweep. Meanwhile, the Knicks are given +1600 odds, or an implied 5.9% chance to sweep the series.

The Knicks swept the season series during the regular season. That is all down to the dominant play of Julius Randle. Over the three game, Randle averaged 37.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. If he’s playing at that high a level during this playoff series, the Hawks have little chance.

That said, the Hawks have reason for hope. They were missing crucial players due to injury during all three meetings with the Knicks in the regular season. One game it was Danilo Gallinari, another it was Bogdan Bogdanovic, in another Trae Young missed the 4th quarter of a close game that went to overtime. The Hawks are healthy now and that could  give them the boost they need to win this series.
