Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Odds: NBA Playoffs Betting Preview

Oddsmakers expect the Nuggets and Trail Blazers to be a long grueling series that could go either way. Will it be Damian Lillard and his clutch shooting or the Nuggets and likely MVP Nikola Jokic who gets the job done? Oddsmakers have a guess, but they aren’t happy about it.

Oddsmakers can’t make heads or tails of this series. Honestly, it looks like the only reason the Nuggets are even favored is because they have home court advantage. They’re willing to concede that basically any outcome is possible, though a sweep is unlikely. It may just come to down to who plays better, Lillard or Jokic?

Other than the two stars, the X-Factor in this series could be the Nuggets guard play. The Nuggets haven’t really felt the effect of losing Jamal Murray during the regular season. With Lillard on the other side now, that could and likely will change. Can Austin Rivers or Facundo Campazzo guard Lillard? Can they provide enough offense to make up for any defensive lapses? That could decide the series.

Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Betting Data

The Denver Nuggets technically enter the series as favorites. They’re given -117 odds, or an implied 53.9% chance to win the series. On the other hand, the Blazers are given +100 odds, or an implied 50% chance to pull off the upset.

If that wasn’t close enough, the odds tighten even more when looking at series outcomes. Oddsmakers give both the Nuggets in 7 and the Trail Blazers in 6 +400 odds, or an implied 20% chance. The least likely scenarios are both sweeps. The Nuggets as +1500 or an implied 6.3% chance to sweep, while the Blazers are +1200 or an implied 7.7% chance to sweep.

The Nuggets won the season series against Portland. However, one of their two wins came with Murray in the lineup. On the other hand, their one loss came with the Nuggets only playing their starters for about a half in the final game of the season.

In other words, there’s no real indication of how these two teams will matchup outside of just 1 game in early April. That lack of familiarity with each other’s current lineup is likely a major reason why oddsmakers are so unsure about how this series will go.
