Hawks vs. Bucks Odds: Giannis Antetokounmpo Injury Sends Bettors To Hawks

Coming into the Eastern Conference Finals, not many bettors were giving the Atlanta Hawks a chance to defeat the No. 3 Milwaukee Bucks. After all, the Bucks had just dispatched the mighty Brooklyn Nets one series prior. And, even though the Hawks took down the top-seeded 76ers, Philadelphia was a massively flawed team with real fit issues on the court.

But, with the series tied at two after four games, all that has changed, thanks to a high-profile injury to the Bucks’ best player.

On Tuesday, with the Bucks trailing big to a Hawks team that was already missing Trae Young, Giannis Antetokounmpo went up for an alley-oop and landed awkwardly on his knee, causing those watching to fear the worst.

Since his fall, the Bucks have come out and said that there is no significant structural damage to the knee and Giannis Antetokounmpo is day-to-day, but he’s officially listed as out for tonight’s pivotal Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

In response to the fact that the Bucks will be without Giannis Antetokounmpo for at least tonight, the betting public has responded, altering course and backing the Hawks to win Game 5.

Hawks vs. Bucks Game 5 Odds

It’s easy to understand why the lack of Giannis Antetokounmpo in the lineup during Thursday’s Game 5 has scared away bettors. The Bucks are not like the Nets, they don’t have a laundry list of former All-Stars to choose from. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the thing that makes the Bucks elite, and without him it could be an uphill battle.

Trae Young did miss Game 4 with an ankle injury, but the expectation is that he will be back tonight and for the rest of the postseason.

So, with all that taken into consideration, the Milwaukee Bucks are still a 3-point favorite tonight for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. And, as far as the moneyline is concerned, the Bucks’ odds to win on Thursday sit at -150, implying a 60% chance they win.

As for the Hawks, we expect Trae Young to make a return on Thursday and even if he doesn’t the team just defeated the Bucks in Game 4 with Giannis Antetokounmpo playing for the majority of the game.

Still, the Hawks sit at +3 according to the spread and have +130 odds to win Game 5 outright on Thursday.
