Predicting who will be drafted #1 in the NBA draft on Thursday night might be as much of a sure thing as Trevor Lawrence was back in late April for the NFL. According to oddsmakers, coaches scouts, and almost everyone in the basketball world, Oklahoma State point guard Cade Cunningham will be selected by the Detroit Piston with the first pick overall pick of the NBA Draft.
Biggest question of the 2021 NBA Draft: The #2 pick
Predicting who the Houston Rockets will select with the No. 2 pick, however, is where the oddsmakers are not as confident. The Rockets finished with the worst overall record in the NBA last year and need a scorer and playmaker to come in and change Houston’s trajectory.
Just over a week ago, Green was the favorite to be the number 1 pick before Cunningham. Given this, some may think it is a no-brainer that he gets selected No. 2.
Green has shown he can play at the Professional level, having played last season in the G League and putting up solid numbers. Green, who is 6’5” and 172 pounds, posted 17.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG and a 36.5% 3P% last year.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, who seem to be at the top of the draft order every year, are set to pick at #3 this year. They will be watching closely at who the Rockets pick and will likely end up with Evan Mobley. Mobley is an electric Forward from the University of Southern California who can use his versatility and athleticism to make an immediate impact in Ohio.
Jalen Suggs and Scottie Barnes are likely the next two to go in the draft but will be watching those top 3 go off the board closely.
