Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors Odds: How To Bet, How To Watch, and Start Time

The Los Angeles Clippers will be the last NBA team to tip off their season tonight when they travel to face the new-look Golden State Warriors. The Clippers have major questions to answer if they hope to repeat their playoff success from last year. Primarily, the elephant in the room is how do you replace an All NBA First Team and All-Defensive Second Team member in Kawhi Leonard? They will miss his presence most against teams like the Warriors who feature strong perimeter scorers like Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins.

The Warriors strolled into the Los Angeles Lakers’ building on Tuesday and looked like the much better team despite being three-point underdogs. As expected, the Warriors featured a small-ball, spread the floor offense that the Lakers had trouble defending with big men like Anthony David, DeAndre Jordan, and Dwight Howard. Jordan Poole (20 points including 4-for-11 on three-pointers) looks like an adequate fill-in for Klay Thompson while the new bench brigade of Andre Igoudala and Nemanja Bjelica were a combined +28 in their time on the floor.

Los Angeles Clippers Preview

It was a story of what might have been when star forward Kawhi Leonard injured his knee in the Western Conference Semifinals last spring, ending his season and putting 2021-2022 in jeopardy. The Clippers were able to win and hobble into the Conference Finals, but eventually did not have enough firepower to get past the Phoenix Suns.

Without Leonard, the Clippers will look on offense to superstar Paul George and also hope that Reggie Jackson can carry over his playoff success (where he averaged 18 points per game in the semifinals and 20 points per game in the Conference Finals) into this season.

Eric Bledsoe and Justice Winslow arrived via trade to help solidify the bench, but this is a team that will struggle to match their top-ten rankings in both offensive and defensive rating with their All-NBA forward on the sidelines until at least April.

Golden State Warriors Preview

Albeit in just a one-game sample, the Warriors played at the fastest pace in the league through the first two days of games. That served them well against an old Lakers team, and that might just be the answer again against the Clippers, who rely on veterans like Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, and Ivica Zubac to balance out the rotation.

The Warriors did shoot 39 three-pointers in their first game (making 14), which is a calling card of their offense. They could face a tougher test tonight as the Clippers ranked sixth in the league last year in allowing their opponents to shoot just 35% from distance. But with the raucous Oracle Arena crowd behind them in their home opener, and with the Clippers still looking to develop offensive identity and chemistry, this looks like a contest where the Warriors can cover the spread.
