Philadelphia 76ers vs. Brooklyn Nets How To Bet, How To Watch, and Start Time

If there are two teams who lead in the NBA Soap Opera Power Rankings, it would be the Nets and the 76ers. The Nets internally and externally battled with Kyrie Irving all summer about his vaccination status, and are now prepared to be without him indefinitely. The 76ers internally and externally bashed Ben Simmons after some abysmal playoff performances and now their fractured relationship is rockier than Zach Morris and Kelly Kapowski.

The latest from Friday morning is that Simmons is “not mentally ready to play to his expectations” so this primetime contest between two Eastern Conference powerhouses will be short both team’s starting point guards. There is still plenty of firepower to go around, as three of the NBA’s top ten players will be in action in James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid. Both of these teams were top-12 in Pace and offensive rating last season, so even without their respective floor generals, we can expect a lot of offense.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Brooklyn Nets Odds

Brooklyn Nets Preview

The Nets’ plan to get revenge after their heartbreaking loss in the East Semifinals last year took a wrong turn quickly as Milwaukee blew them out of the building on Tuesday. As expected, Harden and Durant were the dominant forces, taking 41 of the team’s 84 shots and combining for 52 points, 19 rebounds and 12 assists.

But for a team looking to fill some scoring gaps, both Nic Claxton and Patty Mills turned heads, combining for 33 points on 13-for-20 shooting. The Nets will need players like Joe Harris (nine points on 3-for-9 shooting) and Blake Griffin (six points on 2-for-5 shooting) to step up their games against a tough Philly defense if they are to cover the three-point spread tonight.

The Nets could deploy Paul Millsap in a bigger role tonight. He played only five minutes in their first game after signing a one-year deal to help on both ends of the floor. Look for him to be more involved in the game plan tonight.

Philadelphia 76ers Preview

The 76ers didn’t miss Simmons one bit on Wednesday, when their double-barrel center tandem of Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond Hulk-smashed New Orleans. The two centers combined for 28 points, 23 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks, stifling any interior threat that the Pelicans tried to muster.

Philadelphia allowed New Orleans to shoot only 41.9% from the field on Wednesday, but they should have a tougher time stopping the Durant-Harden combo tonight. Both Seth Curry and Tyrese Maxey were below-average defenders last season, which is where the loss of Simmons really hurts.

With Curry, Maxey, Danny Green and Matisse Thybulle left as the primary perimeter defenders, Harden and Durant should have their way once again.
