Kyrie Irving Next Team Odds: Will This Be His Final Season in Brooklyn?
Kyrie Irving’s 2021-2022 season has been controversial to say the least. The star player sat out the majority of the season and is now only playing in road games. James Harden subtly pointed to Irving’s willingness to do anything to win as a reason he wanted to be traded. So what does that mean for Irving’s future? Oddsmakers don’t think it means anything.
Irving is given -400 odds, or an implied 80% chance to return for the 2022/23 season. There’s +250 odds, or an implied 28.6% chance, that Irving plays for someone else next season. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time that Irving left a team due to personality issues.
He forced his way out of Cleveland because he didn’t want to be LeBron’s sidekick anymore. Then Boston let him leave in free agency without an offer due to his poor reputation in the team’s locker room. So, while oddsmakers don’t think it’s going to happen there is precedent that makes the question work asking.
Nobody would ever question Irving’s talent on the court. He has an argument for being the second-best point guard in the NBA, behind only Steph Curry. However, he’s had issues his entire career with being a good teammate and a team player. It’s cost him with two teams already. Perhaps things are different in Brooklyn, but it wouldn’t be a shock if the James Harden situation was just a precursor to more drama.
Odds | Implied chance | Will Irving be a Net? |
---|---|---|
-400 | 80% | Yes |
