Lakers Next Coach Odds: Mark Jackson Given a 33% Chance to be the Next Coach
The biggest disappointment in the 2021-2022 NBA season was the Los Angeles Lakers. They finished 33-49 in the regular season and finished 11th in the Western Conference. Mind you, this is a team with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, etc. They were a veteran team with championship aspirations and didn't even come close to making the playoffs.
As a result, the Lakers fired head coach, Frank Vogel. Let's take a look at the Lakers next coach odds and take a look at the most likely candidates

Mark Jackson +200 (Bet $100 to win $200)
Mark Jackson has just three years of coaching experience under his belt but in two of those three seasons saw his team make the playoffs. He was the HC for Golden State from the 2011-2012 season through the 2013-2014 season. After losing to the Clippers in Game 7 of the first round in 2014, the Warriors elected to go a different direction, and hasn't coached since then.
LeBron James supposedly tried to get Jackson to Cleveland back in 2016 but the Cavaliers went with Tyronn Lue instead. Some look at the roster that Jackson had with Golden State and believe he underachieved. While that may be true, it does seem a little strange that he hasn't gotten a second chance somewhere else in the league.

Nick Nurse +350 (Bet $100 to win $350)
Wait, isn't Nick Nurse under contract with Toronto? Yes, yes he is. He's been their coach for the past four seasons including the championship season in 2019. Would he really jump ship and try to save the Lakers after a brutal 2022 season?
Why would he leave a situation where he is beloved in that city with young talent to coach an old and underachieving basketball team? That I truly don't understand, I wouldn't bet on this one.
David Fizdale +700 (Bet $100 to win $700)
This one makes a ton of sense. Fizdale was the assistant coach for the Lakers this past year and was an assistant coach with Miami when LeBron James was down there. LeBron supposedly loves Fizdale, and naturally, LeBron runs the show out in Los Angeles.
Fizdale did not have a good go of it during his first two head coaching gigs. With Memphis, he made the playoffs going 43-39 in his first year but then got canned after a 7-12 start the following year. Then with the Knicks, he lasted 104 games and coached to a .202 win percentage. Those teams weren't very good but a .202 win percentage over 104 games is impressively bad. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another look at some point with his reputation around the league.
