Donovan Mitchell Next Team Odds: New York Knicks Given 51% Chance to Land Mitchell

Utah signaled a rebuild was underway two weeks ago when they sent Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves. They received a hefty package in return for Gobert of five players and four-first round picks. Despite moving their anchor in Gobert the Jazz front office insisted they were not looking to trade Donovan Mitchell as well, instead rebuild around him. That tone seems to have changed now though.

Utah Jazz general manager Justin Zanik told reporters in a recent interview, “Change is inevitable in the NBA…Things evolve in the NBA, so I couldn’t sit here and say anybody is untouchable…There’s no intent there to trade Mitchell at all.”

According to reports yesterday by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Jazz are now open to listening to offers for their All Star guard.

New York Knicks (-105)

The New York Knicks are the odds on favorites to land Donovan Mitchell. According to oddsmakers, the Knicks have a 51% chance to land the All Star. The Knicks certainly have the draft capital to potentially get a deal done with Utah. They could have up to seven first-round picks between 2023-25, including four in 2023 alone! The question is will Utah agree to a trade that doesn't include 22-year-old RJ Barrett?

The Knicks have been linked to Mitchell since Leon Rose became President of the organization. Mitchell is represented by CAA (Creative Artists Agency) which Rose was the former head of before taking the job with the Knicks. On top of this connection Mitchell was born in Westchester County and the Knicks would be bringing him to play for his hometown team. Mitchell's father even works with the New York Mets so the abundance of connections to New York are obvious.

Mitchell has three more guaranteed years remaining on his five-year, $163 million contract. The deal also includes a $37.1 million player option for 2025-26. He has averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his first five seasons in the NBA. The Knicks have not had a player average 25 points per game since Carmelo Anthony in the 2013-14 season. Anthony of course was acquired by the Knicks via an enormous package in a trade with the Denver Nuggets in the summer of 2011. Will the Knicks follow through with something similar with another Western Conference franchise for Donovan Mitchell?

Miami Heat (+400)

Miami is always a desired destination for superstars. Oddsmakers price them behind the Knicks at +400 implying a 20% chance Mitchell lands at South Beach. Miami has limited draft capital but they have an outstanding core of young players. A trade with Miami would likely include a package around reigning 6th Man of the Year, Tyler Herro and sharp shooter Duncan Robinson. The Heat have been rumored to make an offer for Kevin Durant but if the package around Herro and Robinson isn't enough to acquire Durant would it be for Utah and Donovan Mitchell?

Toronto Raptors (+1000)

The Raptors have to be in the conversation here for Mitchell. They have the players and draft capital to make Utah a very good offer. The Jazz would likely ask for reigning Rookie of the Year, Scottie Barnes. Toronto is also rumored to be in the sweepstakes for Durant but Masi Ujiri is unwilling to throw Barnes in a Durant trade, and there is zero chance he would do it for Mitchell. Would a package headlined by Gary Trent Jr. and OG Anunoby be enough? Unlikely, that is why the Raptors have been given just a 9.1% chance to trade for Mitchell.
