NBA Championship Odds: Brooklyn Nets See Their Odds Improve After Firing Steve Nash

The Brooklyn Nets just fired Steve Nash as head coach of the program.

The firing came after the Nets defeated the Pacers last night. Reports stated that Nash and the Nets' front office agreed to part ways.

If the Nets were looking to fire Steve Nash this early in the season, he should've been gone before the season even began. Star player Kevin Durant voiced his displeasure with Nash as head coach before the season began, but the Nets acknowledged that they'd keep Nash before Durant if they had to.

Despite all the noise, the Nets still believe they have enough talent to go far in the NBA Playoffs. They have to get there first. Nash's replacement could be Ime Udoka or Quinn Snyder, to name a couple of options.

For now, Jacque Vaughn will take over as the interim head coach.

Here's a look at all of the NBA Championship odds. We'll also look to see if there is value in the Nets.

Do the Nets Have Value?

The Brooklyn Nets have moved as high as +850 to win the NBA Championship. DraftKings has already moved the Nets to +850 to win the NBA Championship.

Other sportsbooks aren't shifting as much. The Nets were sitting at about +1500 at most books before Nash was canned.

Now the Nets are +1000 at Caesars, +1300 at FanDuel, and +1400 at BetMGM to win the NBA Championship.

Ime Udoka will likely be the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. He took a talented Boston Celtics team to the NBA Championship last season. He would arguably coach a better team with the Nets, with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons a part of the mix.

I know Udoka did some terrible things in the past. But I'm looking at this whole situation from a basketball perspective only.

Udoka's first season with the Celtics was incredible. The Celtics bought in on the defense and had multiple consistent scoring options on a game-to-game basis. The defense could be excellent with Ben Simmons on the roster for the Nets.

The Nets are dead last in defensive rebounding and near the bottom in points per 100 possessions allowed. Udoka could help change that. Brooklyn has plenty of scoring options on offense, but the defense needs to play better for the Nets to win games.

At +1400 on BetMGM, the Nets have plenty of value. It's very early on in the season. Ben Simmons, Joe Harris, TJ Warren, and Seth Curry need to get fully healthy. Once those guys are all fully healthy, the Nets will have much more depth to work with.
