Most Improved Player Odds: Lauri Markkanen Given 52% Chance to Win NBA MIP
There’s a new favorite in the NBA Most Improved Player odds. With his recent tear, Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen has streaked past Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to claim the top sport on the market.
Lauri is averaging 24.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and is shooting an insanely efficient 52% from the field. His three-point shooting has also been next level this season, shooting 42.2% from beyond the arc on 7.1 attempts per game. Others like Shai, Jalen Brunson, and Tyrese Haliburton are all deserving of the award.
Let's check out the latest NBA Most Improved Player odds and see where Lauri Markannen sits.
NBA Most Improve Player Odds
Markkanen is now given -110 odds, or an implied 52.4% chance to win the Most Improved Play Award. That’s just enough to edge out SGA who’s given +125 odds, or an implied 44.4% chance to take home the award. There’s a steep drop in the market after the top 2, with Jalen Brunson third on the market at +2000, or an implied 4.8% chance.
If Markkanen wins the award he’d be the first Utah Jazz player to ever do so. He’d also be the first Finnish player to ever win an NBA award.
What Markkanen has done this season is remarkable. He’s seen an uptick in scoring with 10 more points per game, rebounds with three more rebounds per game, assists, and 0.5 more assists per game.
He has turned himself from a nice role player into a potential All-Star. While SGA has become one of the best young players in the game, it’s hard to beat the improvement Markkanen has shown. That’s how the books view it, but all it takes is one cold streak from Markkanen to change everything.
