NBA Trade Deadline Trade Grades

February 6

Mavericks Receive: G Kyrie Irving, F Markieff Morris

Nets Receive: G Spencer Dinwiddie, F Dorian Finney-Smith, 2029 First Round Pick, Two Future Seconds

Mavericks: B+

Nets: B-

The Mavericks needed another star to pair with Luka Doncic. But they gave up assets without getting Irving to agree to a contract extension officially. He could dip after this season and move somewhere else. Meanwhile, the Nets probably got a better offer from the Lakers but declined Irving's wishes to go to Los Angeles because they were stubborn.

February 8

Raptors Receive: C Jakob Poeltl

Spurs Receive: F Khem Birch, 2024 First Round Pick, 2023 & 2025 Second Round Pick

Raptors: B

Spurs: B-

The Raptors still think they can compete for a spot in the East after the Nets trade away Irving and Kevin Durant. It's possible, but the Raptors could've got a ton of assets for some players n their roster.

February 8

Lakers Receive: G D'Angelo Russell, G Malik Beasley, C Jarred Vanderbilt

Timberwolves Receive: G Mike Conley, G Nickeil Alexander-Walker, 3 Second-Round Picks

Jazz Receive: G Russell Westbrook, F Juan Toscano-Anderson, F Damian Jones, 2027 First-Round Pick

Lakers: A

Timberwolves: B-

Jazz: B+

The Lakers won this trade. They got much deeper without giving up too much other than Russell Westbrook. Meanwhile, the Jazz added another first-round pick, so they're happy.

February 8

Knicks Receive: G/F Josh Hart

Blazers Receive: F Cam Reddish, G Svi Mykhailiuk, G Ryan Arciadono, 2023 First Round Pick (Lottery Protected)

Knicks: A-

Blazers: B+

The Blazers ultimately got a first-round pick out of Josh Hart and added an excellent talent like Cam Reddish to its roster. Meanwhile, the Knicks are getting Josh Hart to team up with Jalen Brunson again. Just like the Villanova days. Both teams won.

Nets Receive: F Mikal Bridges, F Cam Johnson, F Jae Crowder, Four First-Round Picks

Suns Receive: F Kevin Durant, F T.J. Warren

Nets: B+

Suns: A

The Nets got a super haul for Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, the Suns added Kevin Durant to a team with Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Ayton.

The Nets got a great deal for a guy they agreed to ship out if havoc ensued. The Suns are now the team to beat in the West when Durant is healthy.

Bucks Receive: F Jae Crowder

Nets Receive: Three Second-Round Picks

Pacers Receive: G George Hill, F Serge Ibaka, F Jordan Nwoora, Two Second-Round Picks

Bucks: B

Nets: A

Pacers: B-

The Bucks traded a ton of second-round picks for Jae Crowder. Crowder was sitting out waiting for the Suns to deal him. I'm sure he's not rusty, but we don't know if he'll bring enough to the table anymore. He's an underrated talent, and maybe the Bucks did well here.

Nuggets Receive: C Thomas Bryant

Lakers Receive: G Davon Reed, 3 Second-Round Picks

Nuggets: B+

Lakers: B+

Thomas Bryant wanted more playing time. Once the Lakers landed Vanderbilt, it made sense to move on from Bryant from the Lakers' perspective.

Blazers Receive: F Matisse Thybulle

76ers Receive: F Jalen McDaniels

Hornets Receive: G Svi Mykhailiuk, 2 Second-Round Picks

Blazers: B

76ers: B+

Hornets: B

The Blazers got their replacement piece for Josh Hart. Thybulle will be a great defender for Portland. Meanwhile, the 76ers got the best offensive player in Jalen McDaniels. He'll help a playoff run for this team.

Clippers Receive: G Bones Hyland

Nuggets Receive: 2 Second-Round Picks

Clippers: A

Nuggets: C

The Clippers dealt Reggie Jackson away but might end up signing Russell Westbrook. Who knows how much Bones will get to play, but he's an underrated guard with a ton of potential. The Nuggets probably did their due diligence, but they could've gotten more.

Suns Receive: F Darius Bazley

Thunder Receive: F Dario Saric, Second-Round Pick

Suns: B

Thunder: B

This trade doesn't move the needle for either team. Bazley should help give the Suns some depth after they lost their depth to the Nets for Durant.

Hawks Receive: F Saddiq Bey

Warriors Receive: G Gary Payton II, Five Second-Round Picks

Pistons Receive: C James Wiseman

Trail Blazers Receive: F Kevin Knox, Five Second-Round Picks

Hawks: B+

Warriors: B+

Pistons: B-

Trail Blazers: B

This was an exciting deal. The Hawks got more offensive firepower with Saddiq Bey. The Warriors added Gary Payton to the team and landed five second-round picks. That's not bad. Meanwhile, the Pistons are so young and super talented. They just added James Wiseman, who was a former second-overall pick. Maybe they'll develop him. He's worth the risk for Detroit. Lastly, the Blazers got five second-round picks, too, which isn't too bad.

Hawks Receive: G Garrison Matthews, C Bruno Fernando

Rockets Receive: G Justin Holiday, F Frank Kaminsky, Two Second-Round Picks

Hawks: B+

Rockets: B

The Hawks added more depth again here. Good for Atlanta. They can still make a run in the East. It's wide open, and they've got plenty of talent.

Clippers Receive: G Eric Gordon, Three-Second Round Picks

Rockets Receive: G John Wall, Danny Green, Picks (TBD)

Grizzlies Receive: G Luke Kennard

Clippers: B+

Rockets: B-

Grizzlies: B-

The Clippers are bringing back Eric Gordon and three picks. They easily came away with the best haul knowing that the Rockets would likely buy out both players obtained.

Lakers Receive: F Mo Bamba

Magic Receive: G Patrick Beverley, Future Second-Round Pick

Lakers: B+

Magic: B+

The Lakers get Mo Bamba, while the Magic get to buy out Pat Beverley and save some cap. Win-win.

Pelicans Receive: F Josh Richardson

Spurs Receive: G Devonte' Graham, Four Second-Round Picks

Pelicans: B+

Spurs: B+

Josh Richardson was either going to be traded or bought out. The Spurs got something for him, including Devonte' Graham, who can be a difference-maker on the offensive end.

Clippers Receive: C Mason Plumlee

Hornets Receive: G Reggie Jackson

Clippers: A-

Hornets: B-

The Clippers are going all in right now. They added Mason Plumlee, who is having one of the more underrated seasons in the NBA this season. The Hornets escaped Plumlee's salary and will likely buy out Jackson.
