Phoenix Suns Championship Odds: 76.9% of Bets on Suns to Win NBA Finals Since Kevin Durant Trade

Kevin Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns in the dead of the night. The deal has had a profound effect on the NBA Championship odds, as the Suns are now the second favorite to win the NBA Finals at +500, or an implied 16.7% chance. But the effect on betting may be even greater.

Over the last eight hours, the Suns have seen 76.9% of bets to win the NBA Championship. Second is a tie between the Celtics and the Nuggets at 4.5% of bets. This is the single largest difference between first and second the OddsChecker’s betting market this season.

Phoenix Suns Championship Odds

The Nets are moving in the opposite direction. Less than a week ago the Nets were given +700 odds, or an implied 12.5% chance to win a title, that’s now fallen to +10000, or an implied 1% chance, after their latest star trade. Without Durant, the Nets have seen just 1.7% of bets placed on them, good for seventh on the market in the last eight hours.

What a trade! By acquiring Durant everything has changed for the Suns. Moving them from +1600 odds to +450, moving them from eight to second on the odds market. They’re now the clear betting favorite, running away from the other top teams in the NBA. The books aren’t ready to proclaim the Suns as title favorites, that’s still the Celtics at +350, but Phoenix is now firmly in the conversation.
